The company behind periodictable.co.uk is RGB Research Ltd, a spin-out from The Red Green & Blue Company which was founded by Max Whitby in 1987. RGB has delivered large projects for a range of international clients including Apple, the BBC, Cambridge University, The Chemical Heritage Foundation, Dow Chemical and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. RGB Research Ltd created period table displays for over a decade and have delivered more than 100 installations around the world. Today we continue to sell boxed sets and individual element samples from the periodic table. Our former periodic table displays business is now continued by 118displays in Madrid, Spain.
Our Team
Dr Max Whitby
Max is the founder of RGB Research Ltd. He is a former BBC science producer with two BAFTA Awards and has a PhD in Chemistry from Imperial College. He has worked in close partnership with Theodore Gray on a range of scientific projects.
Theodore Gray
Theo is an author of many science books including The Elements, with over a million copies in print. Another million copies have been downloaded as an app, published by Touch Press, which Theo co-founded with Max in 2010. Theo is the owner of periodictable.com.
Dr Fiona Barclay
Fiona has a PhD in Chemistry from St Andrews and a background in scientific sales at Sigma Aldrich. At RGB she is involved in marketing and business development. She is Managing Director of NatureGuides Ltd.
Dr Ivan Timokhin
Ivan is a skilled Russian chemist with a reputation for creating some of the most innovative and beautiful element samples ever produced. He worked for RGB Research for many years at out laboratory in London. He is currently a post doc at Manchester University and still advises us from time to time.
